Camera Angles

Close up

A close up is a image taken at close range, it shows the characters emotions and reactions.

Panning shot

The camera turns horizontally to the right or left, but remains in one place. These shots are usually used to capture an object or follow any type of movement. A tripod is usually used with this style of camera angle, as it will create an image that is less blurry.

Tracking

A tracking shot is where the camera follows the action, by following the object/character moving. The shot can be at a variety of speeds, these include:

Method

miles / hour

feet / second

Casual stroll22.9
Average walk34.4
Brisk walk45.9
Average jog68.8
Average run811.7
All out sprint1217.6

Establishing shot

A usually long shot in a film or video used at the beginning of a sequence to establish an overview of the scene that follows, it gives context and introduces the setting.

Wide shot

A wide shot reveals where the scene is taking place. This shot is also called a long shot or master shot. A wide shot helps orient the audience and gives the actors room to move within a shot, without the camera having to follow them.
