'The Devil inside' recreation with Evaluation

This is my groups recreation of 'The Devil inside'.

Evaluation - (to be spoken)

In my opinion, the recreation of 'The Devil inside' went rather well. My group were especially organised and willing to work which was excellent and meant that we could do the recreation quickly and efficiently. I am pleased with the end product (seen above), because although the location and costumes are not correct, the camera angles are spot on.

The recreation process enabled me to learn how to schedule and organise filming. Before doing the recreation I was unaware of the planning that is needed before filming can even take place; there needs to be a shooting schedule, props list, actors list, plan of camera angles and a script. I have also learnt how to operate the camera and the importance of the acting, ie. trying my hardest not to laugh.

I think that the recreation task has prepared me for the main task in some aspects, as I have been able to come up with and produce a short film clip. I feel happier organising my main task now, as I have been inspired by the recreation; it's not always films that have blood, gore and monsters that are the scariest, psychological horrors can be just as, if not more effective. I have decided to do my main task by myself, because I feel that I would be able to organise and produce my ideas by myself. The task has given me confidence and belief in myself that the filming will not be as difficult as I previously belived.

Editing the recreation of 'The Devil Inside'

Firstly, we opened 'Windows Live Movie Maker' we used this program, as it is easy to use and if used correctly, can look professional. We imported the videos clips of the recreation by clicking on the add videos and images button. We added our video clips from the shared area and put them in order that they were filmed in so that the film flowed in chronological order.

Next we cropped our videos to make our clips shorter. We decided to make the first clip shorter because it ran for too long and it was un-neccessary for the film. We did this by running the first clip for just over a second and then I clicked the split button, by doing this, the shot split in two and we could then delete the part that we no longer wanted which then made the clip the length we wanted.

We then decided that the clip of myself saying "Connect the cuts" wasn't effective in the beginning because I was smiling before I said the dialogue. We split the clip just before I started to speak so it cut out the majority of the laughing and I looked more serious. We then deleted the section that we did not need.

The same thing then happened for the next clip because before I said my line and then smiled. This didn't look effective because it gave off the impression that the line was supposed to be comical, meaning that we wouldn't get the reaction off of the audience that we wanted. We resolved this problem by playing the clip and when I started to say my line we stopped it and split the clip, then deleting the clip we didn't want.

The next clip then didn't follow the original scene because it started to follow up the arm before it was suppose to. We decided the cut the clip just after Charlie had said her line so that the next clip followed on after and looked it looked more effective. We did this the same way by splitting the clip and deleting the section we didn't need.

The next clip had Charlie's voice in the background which made the clip less effective so we decided to mute the volume so the audience wouldn't hear what she was saying. We did this by clicking the volume button and putting it down to mute so that there was no sound in the clip.

For the final clip we split where I scream. We split this because we didn't want the clip to drag on, because this would make the video less effective. So, we decided to split it a few seconds after I move backwards and scream and then deleted it.

Camera Angles for the recreation of 'The Devil Inside'

This camera angle is a birds eye view of our two actresses, myself and Charlie. This camera shows myself sitting on a chair on the left and Charlie sitting on a chair on the right, this show establishes the setting of the scene. This four second clip doesn't have any dialogue or movement, this sets the atmosphere for the scene. It only shows my facial expression as we only see the back of Charlie.

This next camera angle is a side close up of Charlie's face. In the three second clip Charlie says the first line of the script "Maria, I'm your daughter", this establishes the audience characters accent and shows that she is American, it also gives them some background information that they are mother and daughter. Charlie's facial expression is fairly neutral throughout, creating tension, as the audience is unsure of how she is feeling.

The next camera angle is a close up of my facial expression, this is a creepy smile, showing the audience that my character isn't sane and that she may have something wrong with her. I then whisper "Connect the cuts" repeatedly. This creates a spooky atmosphere for the audience.

This next camera angle is an over the shoulder shot, showing my facial expressions and not Charlie's. They are on the edge of the screen, showing the setting as well as the characters. I then say "Connect the cuts" repeatedly, showing to the audience that she may have been possessed and furthering the point that she has something wrong with her.

The next camera angle is a close up of Charlie's face which is closer then the one before. This shows her facial expression as to what I have just said to her. It shows the audience that she doesn't know what kind of a state her mother is in until now, giving a confused feel to the audience. The fact that she doesn't say anything shows to the audience her confusion and shock.

The next camera angle is a close up of my face while I says "Do you know how to connect the cuts". It shows my facial expression to the audience and that I'm  mentally ill, due to the various cuts and the spookiness of my body language. The next camera angle is a close up that zooms onto my arm to show the red cuts. The camera follows down my arm to show the audience would a zoomed in version of what I wanted them to see.

The next camera angle follows my hand as I raises it to my face. The next camera angle is a close up of my face and fingers. My lip is shown, as in the original video; however, it was too dangerous to draw on a cross, this shows my insanity. The close up shows the audience a clearer view of what my expression to create tension.

The next camera angle is a close up of Charlie's worried facial expression while she says to me  "Did you do this to yourself?" The camera angle adds to the tension of scene because it shows how scared and worried she is for her mum because of what is happening to her and what she has become.

This next camera angle is an over the shoulder view, looking at me as she signals to Charlie to come here. I do a scary facial expression as she signals before moving on her chair to get very close to Charlie's face and invading her personal space. There is no dialogue in this part which builds tension because everything is very quiet and eerie.

This next camera angle is a two shot, showing more of myself and then Charlie. I then says "It's against God's will you know?" and then smile creepily at Charlie. The camera then follows me as Charlie exits due to my screaming in her face and then I start to throw my arms and scream. This is the end of the scene.
